On the edge of Portofino Park, a house nestled amongst olive trees takes on a new dimension through a project that opens up the spaces to light and strengthens the connection with the Ligurian landscape.

The renovation, led by Clara Bona, preserves the building’s original character through a restoration that respects the context. The dry-laid stone cladding on the exterior has been retained and incorporated into the new volume housing the dining room, creating continuity between architecture and nature. The interiors are built around materials and light: the continuous Cementoresina floor runs throughout all the rooms, whilst the walls retain the typical Ligurian ‘arenino’ finish, left in its natural texture.
The living area has been reimagined to embrace the landscape through new openings and large black-iron windows. The kitchen, living room and dining room flow seamlessly into one another, featuring bespoke furnishings, natural materials and design details. “After years of working on something intangible, I needed something tangible. I wanted to surround myself with beauty that can be touched and experienced,” says the owner. A home made of stone, light and silence, where true luxury lies in feeling part of a place.
